Amelia Schlak, PhD, RN

Assistant Professor, UF College of Nursing
Dr. Schlak is a nurse scientist and health services researcher whose work focuses on improving health care quality and outcomes. Her research examines how health care systems, organizations, and the health care workforce shape care delivery and patient outcomes.
Prior to joining the University of Florida, she held scientific leadership roles within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where she led and supported national research initiatives aimed at improving health care for Veterans. She also served as an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow, gaining experience at the intersection of research, health policy, and federal science.
Dr. Schlak earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida and her PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. She completed postdoctoral training in health outcomes research at Columbia University.
In 2026, Dr. Schlak returned to the University of Florida as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing and Director of the Florida Blue Center for Health Care Quality, where she is leading the Center into its next chapter.
